Hello everyone! I’m Ruby. I have learned English in World for five months. Currently, My level is WU. During this period in World, the biggest gain is to meet many English-loving friends and enthusiastic and easy-going teachers. My tutor Ann always cares about my status of study and life; Echo encourages me with “cheesy pick-up lines” from time to time; and John who has good sense of humor, Kelly who is passionate; Paul who is serious; Britany who corrects my grammatical mistakes in time and AJ who often displays affection publically……Many diverse teachers and lovely students make up a unique world.

 

Most students may find learning English Is a boring process, but I have a fun and effective skill -- learning English while watching American TV series and foreign movies. I've been watching <2 broke girls> <the vampire diaries> <the talented> and <game of thrones> which is popular recently. Regarding foreign movies, such as classic movies <Edward scissorhands> and <Leon>, suspense movies <Inspection> and <now you see me>, science fiction movies <The avengers> series and other marvel movies, I’m all crazy about these. The plot of American TV series and movies can help us focus our attention, but how to effectively learn English while watching American TV series? 

 

 

Here are three tips and I hope it works:

 

Tip 1: Choose suitable TV series/movie. 

 

Just like World set up English courses with different levels which corresponding to different difficulties, we should also choose the content that is suitable for our English level. For me, I started from watching Disney movies.

 

Tip 2: Select resources with bilingual subtitles. 

 

There are a lot of slang and proverb in American TV series and movies. Bilingual subtitles can help us accumulate these words and expressions.

 

Tip 3: Repeat again and again.

 

The pronunciation and intonation of American TV series can help us improve ours, so that we can have an American accent in daily communication.
